Five Artists will be chosen as finalists for the solo exhibition, they will be announced on the website after the deadline date. Only one out of five will be chosen for the solo exhibition, the remaining artists will be awarded participation in a group exhibition.
Accepted Artwork: Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, digital art, mixed media site-specific installations, illustration, etc. In other words, all creative culminations are welcome. Submitted works are not required to conform to any particular medium, style, theme or concept, artwork dimensions may be of any size.
By enhancing the conflicts of the opposites, I try to heighten a feeling of violence that is part of our environment. We digest a heavy dose of brutal news from the world around via the news media as an imposed ingredient of our daily morning coffee. To address this, I have manipulated photography in the works submitted in a way that makes the moment, frozen by the photo-journalists' camera, melt again. At first, this looks like a patterned abstract pastiche and its elements taken from the media provide an allegorical puzzle. The puzzle is soon solved with the discovery of a radiating violent essence that can not be categorized and that charges the whole of living. The photograph intermixed with purposeful text, marks, blobs of thick paint, slashes and strokes punctuate the composition with broken shards and a fragmented imagery that blend one into another regardless of time and form, and in the process, erasing the individual identity of the documentation of the actual event and metamorphosing it into a general visual statement. Taken out of the boxes of black and white columns, print and headlines, the photograph now takes its reference from and has its bearing in the energy and the suggestive potentiality of color.
